HOW WE WORK
Who are we
Ecotourist Iceland is a privately founded non profit organization, founded by architect Guðjón Magnússon and his wife Anna Björk in 2012. Its purpose is to promote eco friendly tourism in Iceland and gather all the various eco friendly companies in the tourist industry in one place to make it easy for the traveler to chose the environmentally friendly chose whether its a hotel, car rental or other activities.
Our goal
Our goal is to encourage everyone in the tourist services in Iceland, to be eco friendly and support sustainability.
Our website www.ecotourist.is is a way to gather people and companies in the tourist service to run their business in a sustainable and eco friendly way under one hat. That makes it easier for you, the traveler, to choose a place to stay, a tour to take, a grocery store, a restaurant, a farm …… and so on. Or if you want to take the less traveled path and go on your own with a backpack, we will try to help you understand the few rules of traveling in Iceland without getting into trouble or damaging the fragile nature.
If you book an activity trough Ecotourist Iceland you will help the eco community to grow. We’ll get more and more partners who want to run their businesses in a sustainable way and we use a part of our income to preserve the nature.

The Ecotourist Iceland community
Our community has partners (the operators and hosts) and members that want to enjoy the fragile Icelandic nature in a sustainable way. We choose our partners carefully, but at the same time we want them to be as many as possible for obvious reasons.
We therefore encourage tourist businesses to become more eco friendly and join us, not because it’s hip, but because it really is the only way to go……
We only have one planet to inhabit and right now, in time and space, it is perfect for us humans. If we want to continue as a species here on earth we must stop, or at least reduce to a safe amount, the activities that will make the earth unlivable for every one of us.
And remember, it’s what we do every one of us, in our daily routine that will make all the difference…..
